- ➤ Illinois residents with celiac disease now dine out with greater safety after Senate Bill 1288 required all food handlers to complete training on gluten-free and sesame safety—championed by Senator Sally Turner. Signed on August 1, the law ensures proper cleaning and labeling to help reduce cross-contamination risks. The Sangamon Reporter
- ➤ Illinois law will let first-time weapon offenders apply for FOID cards while in a pretrial detention diversion program — a change that takes effect on January 1 and helps them resume legal gun ownership sooner, though state police may still deny the application if a person is ineligible.
