  • Phillip Nelson was re-elected as the Illinois Farm Bureau's 17th president, signaling planned efforts to tackle rising equipment and land costs. He aims to push for tax changes to help family-owned farms stay viable.  WYMG

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A new state law makes it easier for families to access student records, so Springfield schools will update their policies soon — a move to boost transparency in education. The law passed yesterday and will guide schools in handling records.  25 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A new Illinois law will require companies to submit written explanations by Jan. 1 if their firefighter gear contains forever chemicals, with gear sales to fire departments banned starting Jan. 1, 2027 + bans on auxiliary gear beginning Jan. 1, 2030.  WAND-TV

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Glenwood Titans beat Normal West by a score of 54 to 32 at home on December 22 — extending their win streak to seven games — as eight players scored, with Alexis Neumann and Hope Gilmore reaching double figures.  WNNS
  • The Mt Pulaski Hilltoppers remain undefeated with a 52-16 win over Williamsville on Monday evening. The team, led by Addison Brown and Alyson Murphy, will compete in the Riverton Christmas Classic on Saturday + Williamsville will play in the Carlinville Holiday Tournament on Friday.  WMAY
  • Illinois Springfield’s Prairie Stars lost to Missouri Baptist 79-77 in a double-overtime exhibition game at TRAC Sunday — UIS will host William Woods on Dec. 31 at TRAC.  University of Illinois Springfield
