EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ District 186 is searching for a new superintendent as Jennifer Gill retires; board VP Buffy Lael-Wolf said a final choice will be named near the end of January. Capitol City Now
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Illinois hunters logged 81,225 deer during the firearm season, down from 82,496 last year. Jefferson County led with 2,185 deer taken — Adams, Fayette and Jackson counties also recorded over 2,000 deer each. WYMG
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Illinois officials announced that Get Covered Illinois extended the enrollment deadline to Dec. 31 so residents can sign up for coverage starting Jan. 1. The move gives consumers more time to compare plans and access free navigator support. WYMG
- ➤ The State of Illinois awarded $2M to local organizations through the Home Illinois grant program to support homelessness prevention and permanent housing efforts, including rapid rehousing. - ➤ Illinois officials announced that residents have until Dec. 31 to enroll in the state-run health insurance marketplace for coverage beginning Jan. 1 & help is available from certified navigators. WYMG

- ➤ The Illinois Department of Public Health issued its first comprehensive report on alcohol use in Illinois. The study shows different drinking trends among high schoolers and adults & links alcohol use with more motor vehicle deaths and liver disease, using data from state surveys and records. 25 News
- ➤ Illinoisans needing health coverage starting Jan. 1 can enroll until Dec. 31 during Get Covered Illinois’ first state-run Open Enrollment Period — providing access to comprehensive plans and financial help independent from HealthCare.gov. WMAY

- ➤ Data from Zumper on Dec. 16 showed that Springfield apartment rental prices rose 9% from last year's median of $952 to $1,034. One-bedroom listings stayed at $800 while two-bedroom prices saw modest gains. The State Journal-Register
