  • Temple B’rith Sholom and Temple Israel will host an interfaith Christmas Day breakfast at Temple B’rith Sholom (1004 S. 4th St.) from 8:30 to 12:00 noon, with all ticket proceeds benefiting the Boys and Girls Club to support its After School Program.  WYMG

EDUCATION NEWS

  • University of Illinois Springfield earned the Presidents’ Award for Academic Excellence for the second straight year after reaching a 90 percent success rate. The honor makes UIS one of only 43 Division II schools recognized this year - the only Illinois school to win the award after steady improvement.  University of Illinois Springfield

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A new UIS study led by Environmental Studies professor Megan Styles shows that Illinois CBD hemp farmers face regulatory confusion following a federal budget bill that permanently changed hemp’s definition— which may impact CBD product production after November 2026 and jeopardize small farm livelihoods according to interviews with local growers.  University of Illinois Springfield
  • On Thursday, county officials met at 4 p.m. at the Illinois Extension Center to begin planning an emergency system that improves communication & resource delivery after challenges during the 2023 derecho, aiming to better assist vulnerable groups.  FOX Illinois

  • Officials in the Village of Harristown have issued a boil water order for residents on Second Street west of Meridian Street and for homes at 1409, 1405, and 13 until further notice. Residents should follow local guidance to ensure safe water consumption.  ABC 20

  • Glenwood High School head football coach David Hay announced his retirement after 32 years with the Titans. He thanked his family, players, coaches and administrators in his post on Channel1450.com social media.  WMAY
  • UIS Athletics celebrates 15 years of Division II membership with a weekly feature honoring standout teams and athletes, including former golfer Talon Supak (2016) who became the first UIS player to compete in an NCAA Regional; his record-setting rounds inspired future Prairie Stars talent.  University of Illinois Springfield
  • Pleasant Plains defeated Taylorville 55-25 on Dec. 11 with Anna Weber scoring 17, which helped improve the Cardinals to 7-0 as Madison Burke and Bailey Leach also scored in double digits. The team will face Cissna Park in the SJO Shootout (Saturday).  WNNS
