- ➤ Sangamon County officials say abandoned properties pose serious health risks (mold, pests, and trash accumulation) and lower property values. They will work with property owners (issuing fines and taking cases to court if necessary) to ensure sites are cleaned up. ABC 20
- ➤ The Illinois Department of Public Health has urged residents to follow food safety steps—clean, separate, cook, and chill—as they prepare turkey and other holiday meals to prevent foodborne illness. The guidelines advise thawing turkey in the refrigerator at a rate of 24 hours for every 5 pounds, using a food thermometer to ensure the food reaches 165°F, and refrigerating leftovers within two hours.
