- ➤ Springfield residents can enjoy a weekend of events—Friday offers Friendsgiving Trivia Night at 7 p.m. at It's All About Wine and a festive pottery class at 6 p.m. at Whimsy Tea. Saturday features a holiday food festival at The Railyard from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.—an artisan gallery and a free gingerbread man Story Time Trail at the Illinois State Museum add even more festive options. - ➤ The Illinois Commerce Commission approved a smaller natural gas rate increase for Ameren Illinois that will take effect before the end of the year—cutting the company's request by 43% from $128.8 million and reducing its return on equity to 9.6%. - ➤ Springfield City Council approved Tuesday transferring Robin Roberts Stadium to nonprofit Friends of Robin Roberts Stadium for a dollar and other contractual requirements. Friends president Jim Ruppert said there is a plan to fix up the historic ballpark—its move comes as local baseball teams announced future events, including a Prospect League team in Decatur and a Women’s Pro Baseball League season in Springfield. - ➤ On Tuesday, the Springfield city council approved the transfer of Robin Roberts Stadium to nonprofit Friends of Robin Roberts Stadium for one dollar — other contractual requirements included —, giving the Springfield Lucky Horseshoes the change they sought after years of complaints. Earlier that week, the group owning the Horseshoes announced a Prospect League team in Decatur and the Women’s Pro Baseball League confirmed it will stage its 2026 season in Springfield. WYMG
- ➤ The Springfield Park District approved a five-year comprehensive master plan at a board meeting Wednesday night at the Washington Park Pavilion that maps out priorities for 2026—2031, including revamping Chamberlain Park, adding a new pickleball complex, and upgrading facilities such as Eisenhower Pool and the Nelson Center. - ➤ City Water, Light and Power will open applications for its bill assistance program on December 1—this program helps qualifying customers pay past-due bills using funds from donations and city employee contributions. - ➤ HSHS Medical Group Psychiatry has welcomed board-certified psychiatrist Dr. Ebuka Edwin Oduche at its new clinic on Old Jacksonville Road in Springfield. - ➤ Illinois Springfield women's basketball won its first game of the season Tuesday night by beating Purdue Northwest 85–75 as the Prairie Stars built a strong lead in the third quarter—head coach Olivia Birt said the team stayed focused on improving its play under tough midweek road conditions and now moves to 1–2 overall ahead of Saturday's home opener versus Ferris State at TRAC.
