CULTURE NEWS

  • The Muni announced its 2026 season 'Season of Love'—with the musical 'Mamma Mia!' starting in May and auditions scheduled for January to complete the lineup.  Capitol City Now
  • Country music star Lainey Wilson will headline the 2026 Illinois State Fair Grandstand in Springfield as announced by the Illinois Department of Agriculture—tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. on Nov. 8, and the fair runs from Aug. 13—23 with prices ranging from $88 to $168 plus a $30 Pre-Show Party ticket.  The State Journal-Register

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A bill that would let doctors prescribe aid-in-dying medication for terminally ill patients passed both chambers and is now on Gov. Pritzker's desk—if signed, it will let adults with less than six months to live choose a self-administered lethal dose after confirmation by two physicians.  The State Journal-Register

HEALTH NEWS

  • Today, the Gift of Hope Community Foundation held its inaugural Light It Up Purple for Hope celebration in Springfield—honoring the Sangamon County Coroner’s Office and Jim Allmon with the Life Changer Award—recognizing their strong support for organ, eye, and tissue donation across the region.  The Sangamon Reporter

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Sunday, the UIS men’s soccer team secured a 2-1 win over Upper Iowa with a decisive goal from Robin Lemke Bergseth in the second half — goalkeeper Landon Amick made eight vital saves — as the season concluded. The team ended with a 3-11-1 overall record while coach Graham Shaw praised the seniors for a strong finish.  University of Illinois Springfield
  • Scheels Sports Park’s Springfield Clinic Dome held its first sporting event as 27 softball teams played in a tournament from Friday to Sunday. General Manager Brandon Doherty said work continues both indoors and outdoors—full operations are expected by April.  WMAY
