- ➤ HSHS St. John’s Foundation will host Celebrity Bartender Night on Nov. 12 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Papa Frank’s—featuring Brian Brennan and nurse managers—to raise funds for the Child Life Program that aids young patients. ABC 20
- ➤ Sierra Mist is a unique torbie cat with soft fur and gorgeous eyes who was brought in as a stray on July 11 and spent time in a foster home before coming to SCAC (Sangamon County Animal Control & Adoption Center) for adoption. She is about 15 months old and is spayed, microchipped and vaccinated (FIV/FeLV negative). WYMG
- ➤ Atlas is a 3-year-old stray who arrived at Sangamon County Animal Control and Adoption Center in August and is available for foster care or adoption. The shelter—open Monday-Friday 10:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. and Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.—currently charges a $25 fee for all animals. WYMG
- ➤ The Moss-Bradley Residential Association asked residents along Moss Ave in the construction zone not to host trick events—citing safety concerns from ongoing construction work. 25 News

- ➤ Isringhausen Imports announced the winners of the DRIVE Grant and Ignition Awards—giving $20,000 to Long Nine Junction and Vonda Social House and $5,000 to 5th Street Gem and Schlee's Gourmet Bakery & Bottle Shop—to support downtown startups. The $50,000 pool came from a trust set up by an anonymous donor who died in 2020. ABC 20

- ➤ Illinois’ celebrated poets Vachel Lindsay, Edgar Lee Masters, and Carl Sandburg will be honored at Lincoln’s New Salem State Historic Site on November 8 and 9 when The Sangamon River Poets: Masters, Lindsay, and Sandburg revives the play 44 years after its premiere. The performance features actors Rich McCoy, Tom Lawton, Leigh Steiner, and Kevin Purcell with music by Wild Columbine—bringing spoken word and music together to capture the spirit of the Illinois prairie. - ➤ Average gasoline prices in Springfield jumped 16.4 cents over the past week to $3.22 per gallon, though they stayed 15.8 cents below last month and 5.0 cents below last year. Diesel prices also rose 4.7 cents to $3.64 per gallon — with the cheapest station at $2.57 and the most expensive at $4.49. ABC 20

- ➤ Two employee unions at UIS have requested mediation amid stalled salary talks after the university made unsatisfactory proposals. UIS Staff will negotiate again on November 5 while UIS United Faculty will resume discussions on November 21. ABC 20

- ➤ The Illinois Department of Agriculture will launch two sales that bring the holiday spirit of the State Fair and local goods to consumers. Starting Nov. 1st, fairgoers will save on ticket and ride prices—while beginning Nov. 10th, shoppers may buy holiday boxes until Dec. 31st at 11:59 p.m. ABC 20
- ➤ SNAP benefits in Illinois will not be paid on November 1 due to the continuing federal shutdown—recipients are advised to check with state agencies and local food banks for alternatives, and unused EBT funds remain available until they expire. The USDA confirmed this change after October disbursements were made and the shutdown entered its fifth week. The State Journal-Register
- ➤ The Massey Commission held its final meeting last evening at the Memorial Learning Center in Springfield to present recommendations for expanding safe and equitable access to services and addressing systemic racism in helping professions — it was formed after Sonya Massey’s death. WMAY
