- ➤ Today, the IDNR launches an automated system that will send text and email alerts with CWD test results to hunters who enter their contact info for the 2025-26 deer season. Hunters with a CWD-positive deer will get a link to verify their harvest location, and those who do not confirm may lose their replacement tags—over 500 deer have tested positive in 25 counties since last season. - ➤ The U.S. Department of Energy granted CWLP $1.1M through the Illinois Finance Authority for a $1.6M project to upgrade Springfield's electric infrastructure. - ➤ Today, the Illinois Department of Transportation began resurfacing a two-mile stretch of Ninth Street and Peoria Road between Madison Street and Sangamon Avenue in Springfield—lanes will be closed and access to side streets may be affected while work is expected to finish by the end of November. - ➤ Today, 11th Street between Reservoir Street and North Grand Avenue will close for four weeks as City Water, Light and Power moves 2,000 feet of 24-inch water main for the Springfield Rail Improvement Project—completion is expected about November 10. WMAY
- ➤ Today the Supreme Court will hear a case on an Illinois law that lets officials count mail-in ballots received up to 14 days after Election Day—Rep. Mike Bost filed the lawsuit, saying the rule delayed his campaign and caused him financial harm. The case will decide if federal officials can stop the state rule by suing and who has the right to challenge election rules. ABC 20

- ➤ UIS women's cross country star Madelyn Miller-Ross was named Jimmy John's Athlete of the Month for September after a strong season start—she set a record in the 5K at the Prairie Stars Invitational and led her team to first place.
