- ➤ Advocates gathered at Lincoln Library in Springfield to push for better housing help for low-income seniors—18.5% of Illinois homeowners—and said many face issues like no running water and sewage problems while urging lawmakers to add funds for home repairs and worker training. ABC 20

- ➤ The UIS Visual Arts Gallery will host Aaron Hughes’ exhibit 'A Radical Turn' from Oct. 13 to Nov. 20 that shows his anti-war art and archival materials. Hughes will speak on Oct. 22 from 6 to 7 p.m. in Brookens Auditorium — the gallery will hold a free reception from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The State Journal-Register

- ➤ State Senator Doris Turner secured over $227,000 in state funding to support four literacy programs serving Springfield and Decatur. The funds are part of a $28 million package for library upgrades—improving online catalogs, operations, and lending—to benefit Baby TALK Inc., Richland Community College, Fishes & Loaves Outreach Ministries, and Lincoln Land Community College. - ➤ UIS Chancellor Janet L. Gooch was appointed to a four-year term on the NCAA Committee on Access, Opportunity and Impact — a new body that merges past committees — which will advise on fair sports policies and inclusion for student-athletes starting this fall. The Sangamon Reporter

- ➤ On Oct.2, the U.S. Department of Energy terminated 321 financial awards, cancelling nearly $752 million in funding for Illinois energy projects—an agency review found the projects did not meet energy or economic goals. The State Journal-Register
