- ➤ Costco is warning customers to discard unopened bottles of its Kirkland Signature Prosecco Valdobbiadene because the bottles may shatter. The recalled bottles were sold in Illinois and other states between April 25 and Aug. 26, 2025 and customers can get a full refund by returning the product notice. The State Journal-Register

- ➤ The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum in Springfield will unveil a new exhibit and book this fall that feature 100 rare objects showing Lincoln's life and legacy—items include his desk and leather portfolio. The book will publish on September 23 and the exhibit will open on September 26 as part of the museum's 20th anniversary celebration. The State Journal-Register

- ➤ The University of Illinois Springfield added $943.2 million to the Illinois economy last fiscal year, supporting 9,093 jobs statewide through operations, spending and alumni productivity—UIS graduates alone generated $847.9 million from higher earnings. - ➤ At a Monday night meeting, the Massey Commission shared its final recommendations after Sonya Massey’s death last year. The report calls for changes in law enforcement — including a county-wide alternative response program and improved officer accountability with more training and a public reporting database. - ➤ Residents needing a passport may apply at a special event hosted by VFW Post 755 and the Sangamon County Circuit Clerk’s Office, held Saturday, September 20 from 9 a.m. to noon at 2211 Old Jacksonville Road in Springfield—applicants must bring a certified birth certificate, a valid photo ID, an approved passport photo, and payment for fees. - ➤ The Springfield Public Schools District 186 board passed its fiscal year 2026 budget on Monday with an $18 million deficit that will be offset by its fund balance — it will apply further spending cuts to fiscal year 2027 instead of reducing staff or programs. The board also approved a new middle school wrestling program and professional roofing services and will post a superintendent search on its website following Jennifer Gill's retirement. WAND-TV
- ➤ Springfield fired James “Jayme” Sullivan from the Office of Information Systems after he posted offensive Facebook remarks about Charlie Kirk’s death in Utah—city officials appointed Jay Underfanger to replace him—while emphasizing that public employees must act professionally online.
