- ➤ The University of Illinois Springfield starts Homecoming 2025 today with campus events from Sept. 14 to Sept. 20 that bring together students, alumni and fans. The festivities feature a block party on Sept. 19 at 3:00 p.m., home soccer + volleyball matches, a bonfire with fireworks, and a 5K run with tickets available from HomeTown Ticketing and streams on GLVC Sports Network. - ➤ The Christian Student Fellowship held its first quad party on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, on the campus quad to let students socialize and play games like volleyball and frisbee. The group will host more events on September 16 and 23 as well as a Monday night worship in the Student Union Ballroom—marking new efforts to unite campus life—. The Observer
- ➤ UIS grad student Max Pilipovic-Kljajic hosted a webinar on Tuesday, September 9th to help Computer Science students prepare for interviews—he explained arrays and hashing with live coding exercises as the first of nine sessions in the series. The Observer
- ➤ SCM faculty crafted terrariums at a fall retreat and have launched Terrarium Challenge 3 where residents will have two weeks to guess which faculty member created each display & winners after eight rounds will receive a swag bundle. The Observer

- ➤ The Illinois Department of Corrections began scanning mail on Aug. 14 as an emergency rule to block harmful substances from entering prisons. The rule lets only mail from publishers be sent to prison mailrooms and will stay up to 150 days while a review panel checks it—critics say there is no proven emergency. WYMG
- ➤ Sen. Bill Cunningham—one of Springfield's top lawmakers on energy issues—said he will not run for reelection in 2026 and will retire after his term ends in January. He will help guide a major energy reform bill that lawmakers plan to consider in an October veto session. WMAY

- ➤ Athens junior tight end James Jones scored two touchdowns — helping his team win 33-19 against Pleasant Plains on September 12th, 2025. The State Journal-Register
- ➤ UIS Women’s Golf will host the Dan Salisbury Memorial Collegiate Invitational at Piper Glen Golf Club on Monday, Sept. 15 and Tuesday, Sept. 16 with three rounds of stroke play. The event, the team’s first home competition since 2022, features competitive GLVC teams — Quincy, Maryville, McKendree, Drury, Truman State and Rockhurst — that will test the Prairie Stars in early season play.
