The UIS volleyball team lost its season opener Friday at TRAC to Central Missouri in three sets—25–16, 25–18, and 25–14—with head coach Laura Ulrich praising the team’s resilience before a supportive crowd; the invitational concluded Saturday with matches against Kentucky Wesleyan and Roosevelt.
The Springfield women's soccer team tied 0-0 against Kentucky Wesleyan on Friday at Panther Field in Owensboro as they outshot the opponent 14-7 and led 4-3 in corner kicks; Head Coach Scott Myers said the team will build on their performance as they face West Alabama today at noon.
Eleven athletes from football, volleyball, and soccer are competing for the State Journal-Register's athlete of the week award—local fans can vote by noon Friday.
