- ➤ City Water, Light, and Power in Springfield faces new EPA rules that require no liquid discharge by 2029—forcing the utility to plan an injection well that will cost between 10 million and 20 million dollars and take 40 to 60 months to complete. In June, the City Council approved over 300,000 dollars to start planning the project. ABC 20
- ➤ Canadian wildfire smoke is covering parts of the Midwest and air quality alerts are active in areas including parts of Illinois—officials say the smoke will persist into today and advise people with breathing problems to limit outdoor activities. ABC 20
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Illinois State Treasurer Michael Frerichs said 250 unclaimed items including baseball cards and a gold Hermes bracelet will be previewed at the state fair I-CASH auction on Tuesday, August 5 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Marine Bank Building—the items will be auctioned live on Saturday, August 16 at 11 a.m. at the Lincoln Stage on the state fairgrounds. - ➤ Starting Monday, Aug. 4, Bissell Road will close between Granger Drive and N Dirksen Parkway for repairs and drainage improvements — the work is expected to finish on or before Sept. 19. Drivers are advised to take alternate routes and slow down near the work zone. WCIA
