EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Springfield School District 186 recommended not approving the proposed tax increment financing district in Jerome as written — the plan could cost the district more than $4 million over 23 years. Director of Business, Finance and Operations Steve Miller said the board has 30 days to offer a new recommendation. WMAY
- ➤ A bill on Gov. JB Pritzker’s desk would require the state board to create guidance on AI use in schools—this plan would explain basic AI concepts, safe practices, and how to protect student data. It also calls for collecting ASL teaching resources by July 2026 and awaits the governor's approval. 25 News

- ➤ A bill to ban forever chemicals from everyday products reached Gov. JB Pritzker’s desk today. Lawmakers will give manufacturers until 2032 to end the use of PFAS in items like cosmetics, dental floss, and toys — a move meant to lower exposure risks. WAND-TV
- ➤ Today, the Sangamon County Coroner’s Office earned national accreditation from the International Association of Coroners and Medical Examiners— the first in downstate— after passing a review of 285 standards that required full compliance in key areas. Coroner Jim Allmon said the new regional morgue helps the office work more efficiently and improve service for local families. Capitol City Now
