- ➤ Local leaders in Springfield hope that expanding the BOS Center along with a new multi-level hotel holding 200-300 rooms will revitalize downtown, as Sangamon County reviews four proposals. The state is renovating the Illinois State Armory into an executive office building and will add a sixth floor and rework the underground parking for mechanical space and storage — cleanup was completed earlier this year. - ➤ Former Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan, the longest-serving legislative leader, was sentenced on Friday to 7 1/2 years in prison and a $2.5 million fine after being convicted on bribery, conspiracy, and fraud charges in a four-month trial with 60 witnesses—his case showed how he traded legislation for kickbacks that enriched him and his allies. - ➤ On June 13, the Sangamon County Fair in New Berlin featured a grandstand show when country musicians Tracy Byrd with Jake Worthington performed+drawing local interest. - ➤ Officials at Memorial Health advise parents to schedule back-to-school physicals for children during summer break to check overall health and update vision screening and vaccinations—especially for those with school requirements.
