- ➤ Animal Protective League will hold its DIM Art House ADOPT! Group Art Show and Junior Volunteer Ice Cream Social Fundraiser on Saturday, July 12 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Scoop Du Jour—95 Plummer Blvd. in Chatham. Local artists will display work inspired by adoptable animals and 15% of Scoop Du Jour’s sales will benefit APL while a pet adoption station makes it a family-friendly event. WMAY

- ➤ Fire crews responded to a blaze at the SLM Services building at 725 Christmas Seal Drive—just off Cook Street—around 4 a.m. on June 12th as traffic was briefly blocked and damage was reported on the building. ABC 20

- ➤ Senate Bill 1784, known as the Clean Slate Act, passed in the House but did not reach the Senate floor before the session adjourned on May 31 because the Senate sponsor turned attention to the budget—leaving nonviolent criminal records unsealed—and the sponsor said the measure could be reintroduced by the fall or sooner. - ➤ Sangamon County officially opened a new regional morgue on Wednesday to consolidate coroner operations for families across the region. The facility includes autopsy suites, evidence processing areas and administrative offices — it was funded mainly by the American Rescue Plan Act. WMAY
- ➤ Gun rights advocates filed briefs with the 7th Circuit today asking the federal court to uphold a lower court ruling that said Illinois’ ban on assault-style firearms violates the Second Amendment—Attorney General Kwame Raoul’s office is appealing the decision and the state will file its response by June 27. - ➤ Three Prairie Stars from UIS—Mark Kattula, Mack Clark, and Adam Lindsey—earned CSC Academic All-District honors for their performance on the field and in the classroom this season.
