- ➤ Motorcycle enthusiasts will join the United Way Ride on June 21 to support local projects as they gather at Casey’s Pub at 11 a.m. and set off at 11:45 a.m.—their scenic route will include stops in Auburn and Pawnee with proceeds benefiting residents in Sangamon and Menard counties. - ➤ The Sangamon County Fair returns for its 75th year from June 11 through June 15 at the fairgrounds in New Berlin, featuring youth livestock shows, art exhibits, and grandstand events such as monster trucks, country music, and a rodeo — extra seating has been added to accommodate record attendance. - ➤ Gas prices in Springfield continued to decline as GasBuddy reported unleaded averaging $3.31 a gallon—three cents lower than last week—with local stations ranging between $2.97 and $3.29 and AAA showing a statewide average near $3.35. - ➤ Springfield Aldermanic Black Caucus, made up of Alderman Shawn Gregory, Alderwoman Lakeisha Purchase and Alderman Roy Williams Jr, called for equity-driven long-term growth on the east side in response to redevelopment recommendations from the Springfield Sangamon Growth Alliance — they want immediate use of state cultural district funds and the History Across the Tracks initiative — noting that neighborhoods need workforce training, community ownership, equitable contracting and cultural preservation instead of more paperwork.
