- ➤ Marsha is a 1 1/2-year-old medium-sized dog with a warm personality and a heart-shaped nose who has waited since February for a new family at Sangamon County Animal Control and Adoption Center. - ➤ On Monday, June 17th at 6:30 p.m., the University of Illinois Springfield Center for Lincoln Studies in partnership with Juneteenth Inc. and the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum will host Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Nikole Hannah-Jones in a free event—titled 'Free-ish: Juneteenth and the Long Legacy of 1619'—to discuss the legacy of slavery and the struggle for racial justice; tickets are required. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ More than 150 bills passed in the final week of the legislative session and will go to the governor—among them a shield law that protects medical providers prescribing drugs once approved by the FDA, an automatic enrollment measure for eligible college-bound students starting in the 2027 to 2028 school year, and a law that stops placing foster children with those having a human trafficking history. Lawmakers backed the measures as concerns over drug safety, college retention and child welfare drove the proposals through the Legislature. 25 News
- ➤ Illinois lawmakers passed three bills in their final session that will protect medical providers when prescribing drugs the FDA pulled, automatically enroll qualifying college students, and bar children in foster care from being placed with persons accused of trafficking. The measures passed in the House by votes of 76 to 39 and 103 to 10, with unanimous support for the foster bill, and now will be sent to the governor for signing + an action expected soon+. - ➤ Attorney General Kwame Raoul announced today that victims of Prehired LLC's fraudulent student loan scheme will soon receive relief payments from a $30 million settlement + the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau will disburse $4.2 million to 660 borrowers, following delays from paused federal operations.
