  • Dave Neff discussed plans for the Honor Flight tribute for local veterans in an interview published on May 26 - the event will take place later this month to honor those who served.  25 News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • 7 Brew, a popular national coffee shop, opened its first Springfield location today, offering coffee blends + a cozy space for local patrons.  The State Journal-Register

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Springfield School District 186 held a ribbon cutting at the new Owen Marsh School building on May 22 (classes begin for the 2026-27 school year) while officials plan to demolish the 1967 building this summer.  The State Journal-Register

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Illinois was named number one for kinship placements after Gov. Pritzker signed the KIND Act, as reported by the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services at a May 26 news conference hosted by the Center for Youth and Family Solutions. The law lets children stay with relatives in familiar homes.  WYMG
  • At a Tuesday meeting in Taylorville, the Christian County Board heard more than 100 residents oppose data center projects due to concerns over power use and farmland loss; the board will next meet on June 16 to review future plans.  FOX Illinois

SPORTS NEWS

  • Glenwood defeated Marion 10 to 0 on Tuesday in the Central Sectional Semifinal as Sophia and Sydney Feld drove in seven runs and Irie Lohrenz pitched a five-inning shutout. The team will face Waterloo in the Sectional Final at 4:30 on Friday.  WNNS
  • The Pleasant Plains Cardinals beat Mt Zion 7-0 on Tuesday evening to remain undefeated, and they will face Williamsville in the sectional championship on Friday at 4 p.m. in Rochester — the winner will advance to the 1A supersectional.  WNNS
