HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Springfield Memorial Hospital is urging residents to learn stroke signs and check key health factors as part of American Stroke Month. Director of neurosciences Jennifer Rebbe explained that knowing levels (blood pressure, cholesterol and diabetes) can help prevent severe strokes. Capitol City Now

- ➤ Taylorville’s Elsie Williamson won the Class 2A discus title with a 139-ft, 7-in throw at the state finals in Charleston on Saturday, May 23 — while Jacksonville Routt’s Millie Schumacher set a personal best to win the Class 1A 800-meter run in 2:13.86. The State Journal-Register
- ➤ The Maroa Forsyth Trojans became 1A state champs in girls track and field after senior Klaire Eighner won two events and junior Zion Young added a title, helping the team secure 46 points and share the crown with Effingham St Anthony. WMAY
- ➤ Tri-City won its first softball Regional in four years when it beat Gillespie 4-3 on Saturday. Senior pitcher Lily Woodworth and coach Travis Lingafelter discussed the win during Sectionals in Williamsville. WMAY
- ➤ Local athletes shined at the 2026 Girls State Track & Field Meet at Eastern Illinois University where thirteen individuals earned top-three finishes while four relay teams claimed medals, including two state title wins. WMAY
- ➤ Central State Eight Conference (CS8) is sending 16 players to the IHSA Class 1A Boys Tennis Finals in the Chicago suburbs from May 28 to 30. The players, who qualified by winning sectionals at Chatham Glenwood and Springfield High, will compete for a state title. The State Journal-Register
