- ➤ On April 17, Springfield Catholic Charities announced it will host its Annual Fundraiser on Saturday, May 3 from 5:00 to 8:30 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall at 2200 Meadowbrook Rd. in Springfield, aiming to support 100 years of service with tickets priced at $50 per person — $350 for a table of eight. ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Gas prices in the Midwest fell last week to an average of $3.01 per gallon on Monday, down from $3.10 the previous week—prices are about 5.1% lower than the national average and 3% below what they were a year ago. The prices also increased 11 cents since last month. The State Journal-Register
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Illinois Department of Transportation said the $2.7 million J-turn intersection project at U.S. 51 and Leafland Street in Assumption will begin on April 21—weather permitting. The new design requires drivers to turn right then make a U-turn and will affect traffic during construction. ABC 20
- ➤ The Illinois House approved a pared-down Right to Play bill on April 9 that will let high school athletes join up to two non-school events each season with only school consent—overriding part of the previous IHSA rule—and the bill now awaits Senate action. 25 News
- ➤ State lawmakers are considering a bill this spring that would require insurance companies to document how climate change impacts premiums—aiming to improve consumer notification and data collection. The measure passed the House with a 75-38 vote and will be discussed by the Senate on April 29. 25 News

- ➤ The Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office has partnered with the Drug Enforcement Administration to host a free medication disposal event at 2833 South Grand Avenue on Saturday, April 26 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.—the effort is part of the national Prescription Drug Take Back Day to help prevent drug misuse.
