- ➤ Sangamon County Animal Control & Adoption Center at 2100 Shale Street is rehoming Rain, a friendly six-year-old gray tabby surrendered on March 24 with her siblings. Rain, who tested positive for FIV, is spayed, microchipped, vaccinated and available for $25 via Meow Mobile. WYMG
- ➤ Birdie, a one-year-old lab mix who enjoys fetch and is a good walker, has been waiting at the Sangamon County Animal Control Shelter (open for adoptions Monday-Friday 10:30-4:15 and Saturday 9:00-1:00) since January 5th for a new family. WYMG
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ AAA says today's gas price in Springfield is $4.27 per gallon, up more than 13 cents from one week ago and 90 cents above one month and one year ago (the state average is $4.42). WMAY
- ➤ Illinois farmers have relied on the H-2A visa program to fill seasonal labor gaps, following new DHS rules that streamlined the application process, and Delight Flower Farm expects delayed worker arrivals by the end of April — confirming the program's vital role for local growers. WYMG
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Illinois State Police broke ground on a new K-9 training facility outside Pawnee on Monday. The nearly $9 million project will include extra office space, training areas and up to 20 kennels (completion is scheduled for December). WYMG
- ➤ Residents can apply for Sangamon County’s new Mental Health Board that will set funding priorities for local mental health services. Applicants must submit a resume, letter of interest, and supporting materials by 5 p.m. April 20 and board selections will be voted on at the County meeting on May 12. The State Journal-Register
