COMMUNITY NEWS

EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Faculty at UIS began striking on Friday after contract talks failed to deliver the requested pay raises and improved benefits. The union said the offered increases fall short and a new bargaining session has not been scheduled. Capitol City Now
- ➤ Illinois schools can apply until May 8 for new water bottle‑filling stations (priority is given to those without existing stations) through the H2O on the Go grant program. Selected schools will also receive reusable water bottles and toothbrushes to support oral health and sustainability. The State Journal-Register
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ UIS baseball team won both games of Friday's doubleheader against Truman State, 9-2 and 7-3, improving its record to 24-8 overall. The wins followed a loss in the series opener (coach Chris Rodriguez praised the team's comeback) and showcased strong hitting and pitching. University of Illinois Springfield
- ➤ The UIS softball team won a doubleheader against William Jewell on Friday with scores of 5-2 and 7-0. The team will host the Lincoln Blue Tigers on Saturday, Apr. 11. University of Illinois Springfield
- ➤ PORTA Bluejays beat Sacred Heart Griffin 7-5 in their first Tornado Slam game at Scheels Sports Park on April 4 — Aubrey Vogel hit a three-run homer and Lucy Wenger added a two-run homer. Sacred Heart will travel Monday and PORTA will host Maroa Forsyth in Sangamo on Tuesday. WNNS
- ➤ The UIS men's tennis team edged Quincy 4-3 last Friday with key doubles and singles wins. They will head to Owensboro next weekend to play Campbellsville at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, April 11 and Kentucky Wesleyan at 12:00 p.m. Sunday, April 12. University of Illinois Springfield
- ➤ Tri-City Sangamon Valley Mt Pulaski won a damp opener at Scheels with a 12–1 victory over Springfield High on Saturday – the team improved its undefeated season despite rain and wind limiting them to five hits. WNNS
