COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Land of Lincoln Honor Flight will launch its 2025 season on April 15 with Mission 73 honoring 93 veterans from 41 towns. The veterans will gather at Abraham Lincoln Capitol Airport at 4 a.m. and fly to Washington DC to visit national memorials before returning to Springfield at 9:30 p.m.  WMAY

CRIME NEWS

  • Springfield police reported that a man was shot and killed at 9:13 p.m. on Tuesday near the drive-thru of McDonald's (2100 N. Dirksen) after he tried to help a woman injured in a crash on North Dirksen Parkway, and authorities later arrested Nicholas J. Kammueller (46, on charges of first degree murder, aggravated discharge of a firearm, driving under the influence and carrying a concealed firearm while intoxicated).  WAND-TV
  • On the evening of April 1st, Springfield Police responded to a traffic accident on North Dirksen Parkway and soon heard gunshots near a McDonald’s drive-thru where witnesses said a man was shot; officers arrested —46-year-old Nicholas J. Kammueller from Rochester— on charges including first-degree murder, and 51-year-old victim Jerald P. Fahey died after being taken to HSHS St. John’s Hospital.  The Sangamon Reporter

  • Jonathan Belles, a meteorologist with the Weather Company, debunked common storm myths as Illinois braces for hail and strong winds this week—he said that green skies do not mean a tornado is coming and hiding under overpasses is unsafe. He urged residents to review their emergency plans and keep a storm kit ready to face the severe weather ahead.  The State Journal-Register
