CRIME NEWS

  • On late Saturday, a 35-year-old New Berlin woman was struck and killed in a hit and run crash on eastbound Interstate 72 near milepost 82.5 at 11:13 p.m.—lane closures lasted about six hours while authorities scheduled an autopsy for today.  The State Journal-Register

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • School board, village, and township seats in Sangamon County will be decided on April 1 with early voting until March 31—voters in Springfield and nearby areas must choose candidates for several seats including a contested District 186 school board race and four Capital Township trustee positions. Additional races in municipalities such as Pleasant Plains, Jerome, New Berlin, and Rochester will pit incumbents against challengers for key leadership roles.  The State Journal-Register

HEALTH NEWS

  • Health experts in Springfield note that Caffeine Awareness Month is underway this March to educate residents about the effects of caffeine, which can boost concentration but may also cause anxiety and sleep issues if consumed in excess. They advise tracking daily intake and checking labels to ensure consumption stays at safe levels, typically around 400 mg per day.  The Sangamon Reporter

  • On Saturday, the UIS baseball team swept UMSL by winning both games 8—2 and improved their GLVC record to 6-5 while their overall record reached 11-10.
