EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Neoga School District will hold an emergency board meeting Sunday, March 16th, 2025 at 6 p.m. at the Neoga Community Center — the meeting will update families on storm damage and announce that schools will close from March 17th through March 21st.  WAND-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation updated lawmakers on its new CORE online licensing system that started in October with three license types to speed up business license applications in Springfield. The department added four more types in January and will roll out additional licenses by the end of summer and complete full online integration by August 2026—helping to cut wait times and boost license issuance.  WMAY

HEALTH NEWS

  • CWLP warns that portable generators can cause carbon monoxide poisoning, electrocution or fire if used improperly. Owners should run generators outdoors at least 20 feet from doors and windows—follow instructions, avoid backfeeding and call CWLP Electric Dispatch at 217-789-2121 when reporting outages.  WYMG

SPORTS NEWS

  • The UIS softball team is set to play two conference road games in Missouri this weekend as it faces Southwest Baptist (in Bolivar) on Saturday and Rockhurst (in Kansas City) on Sunday with both days featuring noon doubleheaders.  University of Illinois Springfield
  • The UIS men's golf team is competing in the SVSU Spring Invitational — a two-day tournament at Kearney Hills Golf Course in Lexington that began on March 15 and continues today. The seven-player squad faces 18 teams including GLVC rivals Drury and Lewis — and team officials are evaluating their lineup to gain momentum for the rest of the season.  University of Illinois Springfield
  • The Illinois Springfield baseball team won a series-opening game 6-3 over Indianapolis on Friday at UIS Baseball Field—Esteban Hernandez led with strong pitching and three home runs helped the Prairie Stars move to 3-2 in conference play, and a doubleheader is scheduled for Saturday at 12:00 p.m.  University of Illinois Springfield
