CRIME NEWS
- ➤ On Sept. 21, a white Dodge Ram truck fled a burgled motorcycle shop and Deputy Jonathan Pearce chased it at high speeds through Springfield and nearby towns (covering roughly 100 miles at speeds over 100 mph) before suspect Kirtis Davenport fell from the truck and was taken to a hospital (he later died after four days in critical condition). 25 News
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ A House committee advanced a bill Wednesday that would let high school athletes join both school and other teams in the same sport—some worry it may cause coaching conflicts and risk player safety, and the bill will go to the full House next for a vote. 25 News

- ➤ Operations at Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport in Springfield returned to normal on Wednesday after TSA found a suspicious item and evacuated one terminal. The technical response team searched the area and found no threat—flight delays lasted about one hour. WNNS
- ➤ On March 13, 2025, the Massey Commission met with citizens and three county board members who pressed for clear legal authority for a sheriff recall ordinance—though the recall is not on the next ballot, the commission will continue addressing the issue despite Sangamon County’s limits. The meeting showed the public’s commitment to ensuring officials have the power to act. WMAY

- ➤ HSHS St. John's Hospital is offering free at-home colorectal cancer screening tests during Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month to help ease test anxiety and promote early detection for eligible community members. The FIT kits will be available on March 27th from 5—7 p.m. at St. John's Pavilion on Circle Drive at 301 N. 8th Street while supplies last. WMAY

- ➤ UIS Track and Field junior Madelyn Miller was named a USTFCCCA All-Region honoree in the 5,000 meters—she set a school record of 16:37.46 at the GVSU Big Meet on February 14—and will compete at the national championship on Thursday. University of Illinois Springfield
