  • The Abraham Lincoln Council of Scouting America will launch its annual Scouting for Food initiative on March 15, 2025—local Scouts will deliver plastic grocery bags with food drive details and return on March 22 to collect canned goods, with residents asked to place donations outside by 9 a.m. Niemann Foods and County Market sponsor the event to help fight hunger in Central Illinois.  The Sangamon Reporter

  • A police pursuit in Sangamon County began after a burglary at a motorcycle shop and stretched over 100 miles through Springfield streets to rural roads until suspect Kirtis Davenport—on federal parole for theft—fell from a speeding Dodge Ram, sustaining fatal head injuries.  Capitol City Now

  • The Illinois State Fair announced that Grammy-nominated rapper Snoop Dogg will perform on the Grandstand Stage at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, August 13. Tickets for the show go on sale at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 15 — available in seating options from $85 to $165 with a $30 pre-show party add-on.  The State Journal-Register

  • On March 13, 2025, University of Illinois Springfield honored employees for excellent work at an awards ceremony held at the Student Union — Nicole Hager received the Chancellor’s Academic Professional Excellence Award and Patty Meyer earned the Chancellor’s Award to Recognize Excellence in Civil Service.   • More than twenty Native American groups met at the Capitol on Wednesday to tell lawmakers they need fair treatment and better history lessons—organizers said accurate education could lead to stronger support for Native issues. The summit comes after a recent win, when land near DeKalb was returned to the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation.  WYMG
  • Native Americans from more than twenty groups met at the Capitol Wednesday to share their stories and call on lawmakers to improve ties with indigenous peoples. Leaders warned that outdated teaching of Native American history remains a problem — a challenge underscored by the recent return of land to the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation near DeKalb.  WYMG
  • City Water, Light and Power is sharing power outage safety tips as stormy weather with high winds is expected on Friday+ the utility advises residents to prepare storm kits, update their contact information, and use the Outage Map to check for outages and report damage.  WCIA
