- ➤ A survey by Current finds that only 27% of Illinois residents think the state is affordable, ranking it as 12th least affordable among states. The study, which surveyed 5,000 Americans between Dec. 17 and Jan. 5, shows Mississippi as the most affordable (62%) while Hawai'i is rated lowest (12%). WYMG

- ➤ Springfield lawmakers introduced a bill on Fri, Mar. 6 that would update death certificate language for fentanyl-related deaths + the proposal seeks to offer clearer details for families and officials. 25 News
- ➤ Governor Pritzker’s Illinois Medical Debt Relief Program cleared $1.1B in unpaid bills for over 1 million residents by buying medical debt for pennies on the dollar while Cook County erased another $820M; state lawmakers debated future funding as budget talks proceeded (details from earlier this month). - ➤ Central Illinois readies for severe weather as preparedness week concludes with storm season nearing. Sangamon County’s Office of Emergency Management is updating local officials (fire departments and others) and advising residents to stock up on supplies for up to two weeks in case of power outages and hazards. - ➤ Local girls basketball tournaments continue at Illinois State University as Chatham Glenwood played Trinity Friday at 10 a.m. & Pleasant Plains secured third on Thursday, while Mount Pulaski will face Deer Creek Makinaw today at 10 a.m. & in boys basketball, Quincy Notre Dame played Friday for the sectional title. - ➤ The UIS women's tennis team will host Purdue Northwest at 1:00 p.m. on Friday at the Springfield Racquet and Fitness Club. The match is a rematch after Purdue Northwest won 5-2 in Hammond last fall, and UIS will look to build momentum before conference play. University of Illinois Springfield
- ➤ Illinois Springfield softball traveled to Branson, Mo. for the Grand Slam Classic and posted two shutout wins on Friday; today they face Division II opponents at 9:00 a.m. (Nebraska–Kearney) and 11:00 a.m. (Washburn) as the team builds on its strong pitching. University of Illinois Springfield
