- ➤ Active and Creative Teen Theatre will perform 'The Outsiders' at the Peggy Ryder Theatre (Hoogland Center for the Arts) starting Friday, Jan. 30 at 7:30 p.m., with shows Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 1 at 3 p.m. WYMG
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Local apprenticeship programs got over $17 million Monday from Gov. JB Pritzker & the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity through the Illinois Works Pre-apprenticeship Program to increase diversity statewide. Danville Area Community College received $550,000, Richland Community College in Decatur got $495,000 & The Springfield Project received $325,000. Capitol City Now

- ➤ On Jan. 26, caseworker Kayla Watson and Rep. Budzinski met with Sangamon Towers management to address security and sanitation concerns at the Section 8 building. Management installed round-the-clock security — a key step to ensure seniors and disabled residents feel safer in their home. WYMG
- ➤ On January 26, Sangamon County hosted its third public beam signing at the County Building (with officials and community members joining in), where a steel beam will form part of the County Hub scheduled for fall. The beam remains open for additional signatures. The Sangamon Reporter
- ➤ Residents and aldermen are calling for urgent action after hazardous asbestos is found at the closed Bally Vaughn apartment complex on West Washington Street — the city is reviewing its options to remove the risk for nearby students and residents. Capitol City Now
- ➤ Last week, the Illinois Supreme Court ruled that a state permit does not require insurers to cover pollution claims under a general liability policy. The decision returns the Sterigenics and Griffith Foods case to the appeals court for further review. WYMG

- ➤ The IDPH said flu cases are rising in Illinois with 100 deaths reported this season (including three pediatric fatalities) as officials noted that similar high numbers were last seen in 2009-10. WMAY
