CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Sangamon County Historical Society and the Sangamon Valley Collection are asking for women's baseball and softball items for an exhibit at the Sangamon County Complex in May; donations are accepted until Feb. 10 and those with artifacts are invited to call (217-753-4900). WYMG
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Springfield Park District received a $600,000 OSLAD grant to revitalize Dreamland Park today. The project will replace the playground, improve walking paths for disabled residents, and add a new fishing pier — set to enhance access for local families. WYMG
- ➤ The Illinois Higher Education Board requested a 4.6% boost to its funding, seeking $2.7 billion for fiscal year 27 while Gov. Pritzker cut current-year education funding by $30.5 million — a move meant to address budget challenges. The proposal now awaits review by the governor and lawmakers. WYMG

- ➤ Hospital Sisters Health System is using Eon Health’s AI platform to catch early lung cancer by reviewing radiologist notes in Springfield. Carle Illinois College of Medicine is training future doctors to use AI tools to improve patient care. The Sangamon Reporter
- ➤ Illinois will receive $193 million each year for five years to boost rural care for 1.9 million residents under the Rural Healthcare Transformation Program fund. Providers warn the funding (a bandage measure) will not fully offset upcoming Medicaid cuts that could leave up to 360,000 beneficiaries without coverage. WYMG

- ➤ UIS athletics is set for a busy week with home games for both women’s and men’s basketball, a softball doubleheader, tennis matches, and track & field sending athletes to Boston. - ➤ The nationally known Monster X Tour will roar into downtown Springfield at the BOS Center on Saturday, Feb. 21, with performances at 1:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. The event features monster trucks racing, wheelie contests, and a pre-show pit party + driver meet-and-greet for fans. - ➤ Pleasant Plains improved its record to 19-0 after defeating Athens 60-25 in Sangamo conference play on Monday night. The top-ranked team will travel Tuesday night to face Washington while Athens heads to Auburn on Thursday. WNNS
